Overview
Chile is the main supplier of plums in the southern hemisphere. All varieties have juicy flesh and small stones. Three of the key varieties are: Angeleno, with purple skin, Larry Ann, with deep red skin, and the dark Black Amber. Chile continues to introduce new varieties known for their unique color and flavor, such as Candy Stripe, Dapple Dandy and the Lemon Plum. Chilean plums are in season from mid-November through April.

Plums are a good source of vitamins A and C, as well as several antioxidants Plums help increase the body's absorption of iron, which may be due to the fact that they are a good source of vitamin C. A 100 g serving of plums provides only 46 calories.
